The list of yeast infection signs is a long one because the symptoms manifest themselves in so many different ways throughout the body. Yeast infections are triggered by an overgrowth of the normal Candida fungi in the intestinal tract. There are 20 different species of Candida, the most common being Candida albicans. These fungi are normal residents in and on the body, and only cause yeast infections when they become too abundant due to unhealthy diet and other factors.
Obviously, not all yeast infection signs are visible. And a great many symptoms of Candida overgrowth – chronic headaches, for example – are symptoms you would not even think to attribute to Candida.
The most visible yeast infection signs include red skin rashes, white patches in the mouth, and white “islands” on the toenails, or toenails turning yellowish-brown.
The skin rashes are horrific, always appearing in body folds where it’s nice and dark and damp for the fungi to thrive. These areas are under the breasts and sometimes the lower stomach, in the underarms, in the fold of the buttocks, and in and around the genitalia of both genders. Yeast infection signs in babies show up as diaper rash. There are many creams and lotions that will relieve the symptoms, but they usually don’t cure the cause, so the skin rashes may keep recurring.
Yeast infection signs in the mouth are equally horrific if they appear as white bumps covering the entire tongue in one solid mass. Other forms of oral yeast infections show as white patches resting on a red foundation in various areas of the mouth. Oral yeast infection is also known as “thrush” and is sometimes found in babies.
Then there’s vaginal yeast infections, and most women get them at some time in their lives. These yeast infection signs include itching, pain and a white, cheesy discharge.
Yeast infection signs described as “white islands” on toenails, if left untreated, result in the nail turning yellowish-brown, becoming very thick and rising above the nail bed. Horrific. There are internal and external prescription drugs for this condition and they take a very long time to work while the damaged nail grows out ever so slowly.
Many other health conditions that are not always identified as yeast infection signs include headaches, constipation, rhinitis, food allergies, digestive problems, chronic fatigue, depression, unexplained irritability, sexual dysfunction, feelings of disorientation and more. Since it all begins with Candida overgrowth that either originates in the intestinal tract or gets inside the body through skin lacerations, many experts believe a natural holistic approach is the best defense against yeast infections.
